In The Community

Capitaland Chorus and its quartets have had the opportunity to be involved in community affairs and highlighted in local news in past years.

Capitaland Cares

Capitaland Chorus believes in giving back to the community. We have performed at fund raisers for Ronald McDonald House Charities, and have sung the National Anthem at many Valley Cats baseball games.

The fall of 2014 saw members of Capitaland Chorus continuing our involvement in community affairs:

~ A performance was held for the Blue Star Mothers luncheon in September, honoring the work this group does throughout the year on behalf of our service personnel and their families;

~ Members donated items for the Capital Region Food Pantry throughout the month of October;

~ In November, the quartet "Into Wishin'" performed the National Anthem while the US flag was raised, kicking off a local McDonald's "Cards for the Troops" campaign;

~ Held at the end of the year, we are participated again in 2014 in the Meyer & Meyer lottery calendar fundraising campaign.  Proceeds from these calendars support the fight against cancer and this year members raised over $2,000 for this important cause.

And they're off!  Members of Capitaland Chorus were honored and proud to sing "The Star Spangled Banner," kicking off the 150th year of the Saratoga Race Track season!  Click here for a link to the Times Union newspaper photos, including our performance.

In June 2013, we collected much-needed items to support the work of the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society

In August 2013 we collected food items for the Capital Region Food Pantry. Here our  former Director Marianne Hunter (left) and Assistant Director Nancy Plaat (right) meet with Angie Pender Fox who appreciated our donation and will see that every item is distributed to those in need.

Our Capitaland Cares cause for September is for children's school supplies as requested by Saint Mary's Outreach Center in the downtown and North Albany areas of the City of Albany.

A team was formed to participate at the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Washington October 2013.  We were honored to be able to raise donations for this important annual appeal.

"Valentines Delivered Musically"  Read this enjoyable article published in the February 15, 2013 edition of the Schenectady Gazette.  It highlights three local barbershop choruses, including Capitaland, that provide Singing Valentines in the Capital Region. Metroland article: Sing, Dance, Laugh

The August 18, 2011 issue of Metroland, a weekly newspaper highlighting arts and entertainment in the Capital District, contains an article focused on Marty Willey and Capitaland Chorus. Read about the benefits and joy that comes from singing!

May/June 2017 Sweet Adeline of the Month: Isabel Pickett

Videographer Extraordinaire, we'd like to thank Isie for her talents, and to acknowledge the tremendous amount of work that this job entails: bringing and setting up the camera each week to record our rehearsals; editing them into manageable bits; and then making sure there's a working link to be shared so every member has access to these fabulous learning tools! Coaching sessions or other extra rehearsals are also covered. Isie is also extremely active in singouts, is a helpful and active member of the Tenor community and handles elements of the chorus website as well.  Thanks very much, Isie, Capitaland is truly appreciative of your contributions!

April 2017 Sweet Adeline of the Month: Lin Smith

Recognized for the various ways she has contributed to Capitaland over the years, Lin is very deserving of our thanks.  Having served many years as the immediate past Treasurer, Lin kept impeccible records and performed those duties discreetly.  Lin is energetic as she lead the chorus in physical warmups, and can be relied upon to help any and all, whenever needed.  You are truly special, Lin.  Thank you!

Capitaland Chorus 2016 Woman of Note:

We are so proud to have Diane as a member of our chorus, and to think she has only been a member for a relatively short time! Diane was voted in as a member of Capitaland in November of 2014, but has already contributed so much! Being a Sweet Adeline for many years and having sung with River Valley Chorus, Diane is now not only a valuable member of Capitaland's lead section, but  this year took on the demanding role of CCL, Competition Chorus Liaison, which she combined with plenty of timely information and a positive outlook. Diane coordinated all of our communication regarding the 2016 regional competition, which also included hotel rooming/accommodations, no small feat! We want Diane to know that her organizational skills, willingness to help,  and  her smiling face are appreciated, and we're glad to honor you as our 2016 Woman of Note.
