Competition

Competition is a major and fun part of the barbershop world that helps keep us focused on raising the bar of performing excellence. We come together in a spirit of lighthearted contest, to see who's really got top form. We root for each other, cheer each other on, and once the medals have been handed out, we sing and party into the night!

Regional

Every year in the Spring, Capitaland Chorus  competes in our regional contest. This year, in very early May of 2015, Region 15 will once again hold their competition in Albany, NY (virtually "in our own backyard") and dozens of choruses and quartets will come together to sing and compete. There are a number of judging categories (Sound, Music, Expression, and Showmanship), and the groups bring complete and entertaining packages. Last year in 2014, Capitaland Chorus earned medals in our new home, Region 15, taking 3rd place in the A chorus division, and in 2013, when we were still part of Region 16, Capitaland Chorus won the 3rd place medal in the A chorus division, and placed 12th overall out of a field of 26 choruses in the chorus competition. We can't wait for competiton this year to show how hard we've been working under our new Director, Bill Stauffer, and how our chorus has grown with so many new and talented members! Watch out Region 15, Capitaland is back!

International

Sometime in the fall the winners of all regional contests – and a few "wildcards" – gather together at International competition. Last year in 2014, the International Competition was held in November in the city of Baltimore. Coming up in 2015, from October 5–10, the International Competition will be held at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas!

Click here for details about the convention, found on the Sweet Adeline's International website.

You can view the complete contest on a live webcast on the Sweet Adelines International website. This is the ultimate female barbershop competition – not to be missed!

Watch the webcast of the contest and root for your favorites from your home!  Be sure to keep an eye out for our own members who make the trip to see the contest in person.

Meet the Chorus

Come to the About Us section to meet the director, and find out what we're all about!

July 2017 Sweet Adeline of the Month: Laurie Pracher

Laurie is one of those "behind-the-scenes" members who works hard in the chorus: She serves on the 2017 Management Team, is a dedicated chorus member and often volunteers for singouts, even though she must travel quite a bit to participate. Laurie always strives for excellence, both in the chorus and in her quartet, and for all these things, we'd like to recognize and thank her!

June 2017 Sweet Adeline of the Month: Isabel Pickett

Videographer Extraordinaire, we'd like to thank Isie for her talents, and to acknowledge the tremendous amount of work that this job entails: bringing and setting up the camera each week to record our rehearsals; editing them into manageable bits; and then making sure there's a working link to be shared so every member has access to these fabulous learning tools! Coaching sessions or other extra rehearsals are also covered. Isie is also extremely active in singouts, is a helpful and active member of the Tenor community and handles elements of the chorus website as well.  Thanks very much, Isie, Capitaland is truly appreciative of your contributions!

Capitaland Chorus 2017 Woman of Note:

MEGAN SCOLARO

Capitaland Chorus is extremely fortunate to have such a talented musical leader such as Megan. Whether she is conducting physical or vocal warmups, her enthusiasm and support inspire us all to do our very best as singers. As baritone section leader, she handled her responsibilities in the same giving, friendly way. We can count on Megan to hear and comment on the accuracy of pitch and our singing, and we often rely on her suggestions and comments for improvement. Megan makes us all smile with her own lovely voice and her singing of instructions as she conducts warmups, we love to have her direct us! Thank you Megan, for being a solid musical pillar for our chorus, we've grown and improved with your help!
