Susan Koppenhaver, Lead

I’ve been a Sweet Adeline for 17 years, and am loving every minute.  I am and have been a section leader of both tenors and leads, Assistant Director, and currently going through the Director Certification Program.  Before SA, I was a voice major at the Cleveland Institute of Music, and also received a BFA in Piano from Lake Erie College, too many years ago to mention!  I have enjoyed being the pianist and Musical Director for many community theater shows, been a soloist for years in churches, a church choir director, been in community choirs, and enjoy all types of music.  In real life, I have been a Health Administrator for about 25 years in various settings.

Quay Houchen, Bass

I’ve been singing all my life, first with a mighty foursome, including my mom, dad, and older sister. I sang in glee club and folk group in elementary and high school and a jazz ensemble group in college. I was a background studio recording artist after college in NYC for many years. I am currently pursuing television commercials and have even booked a few. I joined Sweet Adelines in 2001 with Capitaland Chorus, then in 2011 with Saratoga Soundtrack Chorus. I am currently a dual member of both choruses. I have quarteted throughout the years with Back in Business, Heart and Soul, Mocha Voca, and now Xstatic.  I am currently a Credentialed Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Coordinator for a large state agency.

Cary Kruzansky, Baritone

I work as a Utilities Engineer at the Department of Transportation and have been singing since I was a child. Discovering Barbershop harmony after graduating college, I sang in quartets as a Tenor (in Sunny Side Up and Champagne), as a Bass (in Renaissance) and as a Baritone (in After Hours, Chordbusters, and now Xstatic).  In the words of Irving Berlin - "Let me sing and I'm happy."

Carol Leiby, Tenor

I have been singing Barbershop for over 30 years.  I am a retired Registered Nurse and when I’m not singing, which is seldom, I can be found in my sewing and crafts room, or spending some time with my five grown children, and 12 grandchildren.  And yes, they can all sing.

Meet the Chorus

Come to the About Us section to meet the director, and find out what we're all about!

March 2018 Sweet Adeline of the Month: Kathie Hedrick

Congratulations to Kathie, who we want to honor this month for all her hard work on the Wine and Dine for the Arts grant. Kathie's tireless work helped to procure this grant for us again this year, and we appreciate her efforts in reaching out to get Capitaland Chorus situated as an important piece of the arts here in our area. Kathie also serves as a musical leader, as an assistant section leader for the leads, and did I mention that she also sing in her own quartet called "Into Wishin' "? Many thanks Kathie, for all the hats that you wear in order to serve our chorus!

February 2018 Sweet Adeline of the Month: Dodie Gearing

As a dedicated member of the music team, Dodie is assistant section leader for the basses. But you can also rely on Dodie to help organize guest practices and take part in auditions, providing musical guidance whenever requested. The Membership team is extremely grateful for her willingness to share in the task of moving guests along the path to full membership. Dodie also participates in many chorus singouts which are integral to both our budget and public image, and has served on numerous committees and held a variety of offices in the chorus. Thank you Dodie, for all that you do!

January 2018 Sweet Adeline of the Month: Fran Pinto

Capitaland is proud and happy to have a dedicated member like Fran, her accomplishments are many!  Here's just a few: She chaired our big show this past November 2017, which included coordinating ad sales, organizing committees, creating & designing the show program and about a million other tasks that go with that chair's responsibility. The show's success is a testament to Fran's hard work and also to the many people who assisted her. Did I mention that Fran also blows the pitch for us in rehearsal, sings bass with her quartet "Mad Caps," and is a dual chorus member with Saratoga Soundtrack? Whew, it's hard to keep up with her, but you inspire us all to try! Many thanks Fran, for all that you do for our chorus!

Capitaland Chorus 2017 Woman of Note:

Capitaland Chorus is extremely fortunate to have such a talented musical leader such as Megan. Whether she is conducting physical or vocal warmups, her enthusiasm and support inspire us all to do our very best as singers. As baritone section leader, she handled her responsibilities in the same giving, friendly way. We can count on Megan to hear and comment on the accuracy of pitch and our singing, and we often rely on her suggestions and comments for improvement. Megan makes us all smile with her own lovely voice and her singing of instructions as she conducts warmups, we love to have her direct us! Thank you Megan, for being a solid musical pillar for our chorus, we've grown and improved with your help!
