Mad Caps - A hat for every song…still looking for a song for every hat!

Mad Caps are members of Capitaland Chorus, an award-winning chapter of Sweet Adelines Int'l. We have over 120 years of barbershop experience combined! We love to learn new music and match it to our hat collection. Mad Caps have great fun rehearsing together, but especially love to perform!

About Us

Marilyn Semerad, a Capitaland member since 2002, sings tenor. She is retired from the publishing field and performed in local theater for 30 years before joining Capitaland. She loves bowling and mah jong and is happy to have found other singers who share her sense of humor/silliness.

Nancy Plaat, lead, started singing barbershop in May 1978 in the Latham Circle Chorus, which then became the award-winning Capitaland Chorus. Nancy, mother of two sons, keeps busy with her four granddaughters. She is a lead section leader and has been active in chorus administration - recently serving as gig coordinator. She loves to perform and hopes that our "Mad Cap" style brings joy to audiences everywhere.

Fran Pinto, formerly Stewarts' "hat lady," is a retired state worker, mother of two daughters, and proud grandmother of two. A member of Sweet Adelines for over 35 years, and currently acting as an Assistant Director in Capitaland, Fran also served as a section leader and sings bass in both Capitaland and Saratoga Soundtrack choruses! In her spare time (and nice weather), she enjoys pickleball, kayaking and riding her Harley trike!

Niki Fillipone loves to sing, has three grown kids, and the very best of hubbies. She is also a proud "mummo" (a moniker bestowed by one of her grandchildren) to four "grand-loves." She's a recently retired K-12 Librarian from the Hoosic Valley School and is enjoying kayaking and pickleball plus extra family time!

Here's a parody based on Randy Rainbow's "Mr. Biden":
